James Frey has been an absolute favorite author of mine ever since his scandalous debut novel "A Million Little Pieces". There was a scandal following the release of the book since he claimed it was an autobiography, which was later questioned. But the quality and unique tone of his writing is why I love his work.
This book is revolutionary.
It's exactly what the title describes.
A last and final testament of the Bible.
Ben Jones is Messiah in today's America. He hanga out with the destitute and poor and his life story is extremely painful.
The book consists of many books written by different people more or less important in his life.
While travelling the USA and volunteering at homeless shelters run by the Catholic Worker movement I felt the same vibe. And I often saw the bumper sticker: "Jesus please save me from your followers!"
This Messiah is very far from the self righteous gun-toting Christian right in the US. James Frey is making a point, loud and clear. And I like it. A lot.
