Paradise by Abdulrazak Gurna
Winner of the Nobel prize 2021.
Strangely haunting story about the beautiful Yusuf who is sold to a rich merchant as a 12-year old boy, to attone for his father's debts. The story is set in the early 1900's in east Africa and there is cruelty, beauty and longing interlaced between the pages.
It took me a month to read even though it's only 247 pages.
I won't forget this book, it opens your heart wide.
